Rem Koolhaas once said that the best designs are those that balance innovation with functionality, and that in some cases it is not always the right thing to take the traditional route in designing. Rooted in the dynamic and ever-evolving urban fabric of New York, this thesis embraces non-traditional design strategies by merging two unlikely programs into a single space. It investigates how such an unconventional combination of programs can seamlessly integrate into the daily life of the city, enhancing its landscape and mimicking the city's distinct characteristics. enhancing its landscape and echoing its distinct rhythm and complexity. Drawing inspiration from Brooklyn, a place known for cultural layers, brick facades and deep rooted community identity. This project adopts that style with the combination of windows sourced from around the city that have been reinterpreted and incorporated, creating a visual language that feels familiar yet forward thinking. With this path, this project becomes “the city within the city”, a space that reflects the characteristics and spirit of Brooklyn and the rest of New York city while proposing new possibilities for urban integration and interaction.
