When trying to create a space, people are often too limited in their involvement in its design and construction. Issues concerning cost, materials, labor, and an overall question of authorship come to the forefront. Through collecting, documenting, experimenting, and improvising, I explored ways of working that encourage and facilitate a careful act of making.

"Building construction has long been a rather conservative activity, which makes it particularly vulnerable to change. Houses and other buildings are getting more and more expensive to construct, so we may soon see cheaper and less conventional ways of making them. These innovations are likely to involve disconcerting changes in the deployment of labor and capital. Furthermore, the appearance of buildings will probably change drastically, too, in which case our main streets and our suburbs may give us a bit of a shock." - J.E. Gordon
